The game is more channelled than CoP, originally GSC wanted it to be a big open world map, but technical limitations forced them to split it into the various maps. While it isn't Demon Souls hard, it doesn't pander to your FPS lone hero aesthetic which was somewhat refreshing when it came out. If you say no, the NPC says 'Look at this asshole. The whole first mission sums up the stalker games when you are offered help taking on the bandits. The appeal of Shadow of Chernobyl is that it was the first and it introduced the stalker mood. Im past the 100 Rads Bar and on the way to the X18 lab on the "Dark Valley" for finding more "documents" (another generic and un-logical fecth quest) and Im already making a strenght to keep going only to trying to see what is this game has thats truly unique and better than Miserable Pripyat. Yet, I keep hearing Chernobyl is so good or even better than Pripyat from a lot of people.
Theres isnt one sole aspect that its better than Prypiat. The game feels cruder and simply worst than Miserable Pripyat in all aspects - immersion/atmosphere, art/aesthetics, exploration mechanics, combat mechanics, artifact hunting mechanics, sandbox/"open-endendness", AI, NPCs, art/aesthetics, plots/quests, etc.

I hunt for the best mods (AMK, Complete and LURK, it seems) try some of them in different installs, pick the one I found more comfortable with and. Then, amazed and bewildered by that experience, I feel compelled to play the other games from the series, specially the original one, which gets even more praise than Pripyat in some circles. Its one of the most immersive and atmospheric experiences Ive had in a videogame, up there with System Shock, Thief and Deus Ex for me. So I go ahead and try Call of Pripyat with Misery mod.

In addition to that, I'm using a "real world weapons" texture pack and a "pm and pb" texture pack to make my guns look prettier.įor anyone that stumbles across this thread. ZRP is for bug fixes and has a great configuration tool for some game settings and optional submods, and the absolute packs are the highest quality texture packs for the vanilla game feel out there as far as I know. Personally, I would recommend using Zone Reclamation Project 1.7 (google it, it's not on Nexus), absolute nature, and absolute structures. The readmes will explain what to do if the mods are any good. Some mods will have multiple folders, and you must choose the package you want to extract to your SoC folder. Some mods will only have one folder, and you extract that whole folder.
You will use 7zip to extract the appropriate folder into your Stalker SoC folder, as described by the location above. View the readme.txt files in the mod folders for installation instructions.

Download them to desktop or somewhere convenient of your choosing, and then use 7zip to open them.ĥ. Go to nexusmods or whatever website has the download links for the mods you'd like to use. Make sure you know where your SoC folder is, typically C:/Program Files (86x)/steam/steamapps/common/S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl or whatever.ģ.
